Internship
Candidates for doctor of pharmacy degrees are eligible for the specialized managed care internship at UMass Medical School’s Clinical Pharmacy Services. Our consultant pharmacists, who serve as adjunct faculty at UMass Medical School, local colleges of pharmacy, or both, mentor interns throughout this four- to six-week rotation.
In addition to meeting rigorous standards for advanced pharmacy practice experience, as required for the degree, the internship offers you other opportunities:
- Gain real-world, practical experience in managed care
- Improve professional, personal, and career development strategies through one-on-one personalized coaching
- Build skills critical for drug literature evaluation, medical writing, and professional presentation
- Become an important part of the Clinical Pharmacy Services team
- Understand the impact managed care pharmacists have on patient well-being
- Observe and participate in decisions related to prior authorization, formulary management, drug reviews, clinical guideline development, and more
Clinical Pharmacy Services also offers one-day visits for students interested in learning more about managed care as well as one- to four-month internships that provide internship hours towards pharmacy licensure.
We maintain affiliations with several colleges of pharmacy, all of which have placed students in our program:
